TIBET-Pilgrimage
|
For
Tibetans the Pilgrimage has become one of the most important
ways of expressing their spirituality. A pilgrimage may be a
daily occurrence, such as a Kora, walking clockwise around a
Buddhist temple while chanting the sacred mantra Om Mani Padme
Hum. Other forms of Pilgrimages may be a whole village travelling
for weeks to reach a holy mountain or a lake. The lunar calendar

auspicious times for these pilgrimages. A Kora of Mount Kailash
during the Saga Dawa festival may offer the possibility of liberation
within three lifetimes. The capital Lhasa with its most holy
Kora, the Barkhor, is also one of the main pilgrim destinations.
Its not uncommon while travelling by road in Tibet to meet pilgrims
who prostrate themselves all the way to Lhasa, sometimes taking
over a year to reach their destination. |
